Turn the music up! I’m giving away a JBL portable stereo. Why you ask? Because I do what I WANT… and what I want is to put a smile on one of your faces.
Name a song and share a story as to why that song is memorable to you. It can be funny, sweet, whatever! Email your story to info@whatthechung.com. The lucky winner will be picked Monday afternoon and their winning story will be posted on #InstantKarma!
WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Thanks to everyone who shared their stories! It was a tough decision but this one tugged on my heart strings. Here’s the winning story!
“My dad, the straight-edged-no-nonsense-never-saw-a-rule-he-doesn’t-like guy, must have seen pigs fly because on my 13th birthday, he not only skipped work, but pulled me out of class for the day. It wasn’t too surprising that he decided to take me to the movie theater because there was nothing that my dad – and me for that matter- loved more than a good movie with a large popcorn 4 pumps of butter extra salt. We ended up watching Armageddon and getting burgers at Fuddruckers after. The funny thing is I remember us not saying a word to each other – in part because my dad is not a particularly talkative fellow, but also because I was scared that saying something would ruin the magic of this day. A week later, my dad left a cassette tape of Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing on my desk. And just like that, I felt like I got it – what it means to say everything and nothing at all. That song will always be me and my dad’s. In it are words unspoken of love, dedication, sacrifice and the importance of playing hooky every once in awhile.”

Song: you’re the best (from karate kid)
This song makes me think of my boyfriend- ridiculously, it’s set as the alarm on my phone and every morning he groans and playfully tries to turn it off 🙂 starts the day right!
The song that comes to mind, for me, is Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World. I had a close friend die. He was my boyfriend’s younger brother. The day after he died, I was driving to a job interview and the weather was horrible. It was muggy and it was raining. I could hardly see. That song came on the radio and it seemed as though the rain stopped and the sun came out. Then sunlight emerged and a rainbow appeared. I felt so miserable the day after my friend died but I thought maybe it was a sign from him that he was okay. I think he sent me the sunshine and rainbow to let me know that no matter how dark my life may be, there will always be light. Sometimes when I would think of him, this song would come on the radio =)
